734 Flues Acquired from TVRM
The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad (WMSR) recently acquired new flues for their historic steam locomotive, No. 734, marking a significant step in the ongoing restoration of this cherished engine. No. 734, a 1916-built 2-8-0 "Consolidation" type locomotive, has been a central attraction for the railroad, drawing rail enthusiasts and tourists alike. The flues are essential components of the boiler, responsible for conducting hot gases from the firebox to generate steam. This acquisition demonstrates the WMSR's commitment to preserving its operational steam fleet and highlights the meticulous efforts required to maintain vintage machinery to modern safety and performance standards.
The installation of the new flues is part of a comprehensive overhaul of No. 734, which was retired in 2016 for its federally mandated 1,472-day inspection.
